Tales of the Strange

Have you ever heard of a plain-language version of Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio?

A scholar spends the night in an abandoned house and is welcomed into a beautiful woman's arms, only to discover that her face is a painted skin.

A poor young man finds a fox. The fox says, “I’ll marry you, but you must never look at my tail.”

At the mass graves outside town, someone tells stories every night. Anyone who listens disappears the next day.

Don’t be afraid. These are all stories passed down by our ancestors.

I’ll tell them to you in plain, simple language.

Careful: once you’ve listened, don’t look back tonight.
