Qin Hanming, a boy from Qingshi Village, has been branded a bringer of misfortune since childhood. Everyone avoids him as if he were a plague. Old Yang gives him the divine scripture, The Hongmeng Creation Sutra, in exchange for a skewer of candied haws. That very night, Old Yang dies, and the boy inherits the fate of becoming the thirty-eighth Guardian of the Village.

He tempers his body with wasted spiritual energy, awakens a Chaos Spirit Root, and shatters the Wolf King with one punch. From being despised by the whole village, he rises to become someone everyone looks up to. Seven old acquaintances scattered across different realms, twelve temples sealing the origins of the Great Dao, a myriad of worlds on the brink of collapse, and the Pillar of Creation, mysteriously shut away.

The Donglin family seeks to open the gate and become gods. The Demon Emperor and the Devil Venerable covet the origins. His senior disciple brother Mo Yuan is trapped in a whirlpool of ambition. When all twelve origins of the Great Dao are gathered, everyone urges him to open the Pillar of Creation. But Qin Hanming makes a different choice.

"The gate isn't meant to be opened. It's meant to be guarded."

As the cycle of reincarnation repeats, beneath the locust tree, the voice rings out once more as the candied haws clink: "Three days left. This is your last chance."
