Shen Qiwutong died on her wedding night. When she opens her eyes again, she has been dragged into a strange space called the Women's Virtue Trial. There is only one rule: survive forty-nine nights in the marquis's manor. Each night, Heaven's punishment strikes one person, but the guilty can transfer it to someone else. Every night she survives earns her a skill belonging to a legitimate daughter. At night, her half-sister smiles at the punishment from Heaven. After being struck by lightning, her stepmother says, "You think you've won." Her fiancé knocks on her door in the middle of the night and tells her to choose someone to take the punishment. Then she discovers that the master of the trial is her own birth mother.
