An unexpected breakup seven years ago abruptly brought Jiang Yiheng and Su Zhiyu's story to an end.

They were each other's first love. They met and fell in love at university, and their future had seemed bright. Neither of them ever expected things to end with them going their separate ways.

Seven years later, they met again at an interdepartmental project coordination meeting.

One held an important position in a central department, calm and reserved, with a deep and guarded mind; the other had devoted herself to her work, bright and perceptive, and had long since outgrown the innocence of her student days.

The misunderstandings they had never resolved gradually resurfaced as their work brought them together again.

There was no melodramatic back-and-forth.

Late at night, after working overtime, the city streets were sparsely lit.

In the cramped space of a car, Jiang Yiheng turned his head and spoke in a low voice: "I'll only ask once. Do you want to give us another chance?"

Su Zhiyu lowered her eyes, her fingers unconsciously clenching. Her heart was already in turmoil, though her expression remained composed.

"Are you saying this now because, after weighing everything, you decided I'm the best choice?"

Jiang Yiheng didn't answer right away.

She looked up, a touch of self-mockery in her eyes. "In your eyes, am I just a backup option you can come back to whenever you want? What makes you so sure I'm still here waiting for you?"

After all those long, winding years, both of them had taken wrong turns and endured their share of pain.

At the end of this long road, its lights still illuminated two people determined to find their way to each other."}
