[Longevity] [Undying and Immortal] [Everyday Life] [Xuanwu Gate] [Everyday Life] [Slow Pace]
Chen Chang'an, a 26-year-old advertising company wage slave, visits Xi'an and buys a stall vendor's ancient jade for forty yuan near the ruins of Xuanwu Gate.
He touches it casually, and transmigrates.
He wakes up in the Great Tang, in the ninth year of Wude, on the eve of the Xuanwu Gate Incident.
Even more absurdly, he discovers that he seems unable to die. An arrow pierces his chest, and it heals in minutes. Someone kicks him, and the bruise disappears in two seconds. At midnight every day, his body automatically grows a little stronger. Not much, but steadily.
He has a golden finger, but where's the manual? There isn't one. A System? None. An old master? Not that either. A product with nothing included, leaving him to figure it all out himself.
At first, all he wants is to keep his head down, stay unnoticed, and scrape by until he dies. But through a series of mishaps, Qin Qiong catches him "coming back from the dead" in public, and Li Shimin takes him for a divine being sent from Heaven.
From then on, his life in the Great Tang goes completely off the rails.
At court, they take him for a charlatan. On the battlefield, he's treated like a human shield. His hobbies of brewing wine and making soap somehow turn him into Chang'an's richest man. Cheng Yaojin drags him off to be a punching bag every day, Wei Zheng impeaches him whenever he sees him, and the princes chase after him, calling him Master. He plays dumb while getting stronger, makes money while watching the show.
From Xuanwu Gate to the Reign of Zhenguan, from the battlefields of the Western Regions to the era of Wu Zetian, and on to the An Lushan Rebellion, he witnesses every twist and turn in the Great Tang.
He sees one friend after another pass away and outlives one enemy after another.
Hundreds of years go by before his enemies finally understand the long-circulating legend:
The Great Tang has a man who can't be beaten to death.
Don't fight him. He'll outlive you until you're dust.
And it all began because he took one extra glance at that worthless stone at a street stall.
