Qi Yue, a first-year college student, joins a dying debate club with only three members left and unexpectedly binds himself to an "Approval Rating System" that lets him see the audience's scores and predict what to say to win their favor.
It also comes with an old man from the Warring States period, more than two thousand years ago: Gongsun Long.
"I shall be your first audience member."
From then on, while others debate with their mouths, Qi Yue debates with his life. He has to win even when assigned a position he disagrees with, shoulder the burden when his teammates won't cooperate, and keep going as one guide after another leaves. Then a note from his nemesis, Chen Yiming, lands on the table like a knife: "Have you figured it out yet?"
He thought the System was a cheat, but later discovered that while it could tell him what the audience liked, it couldn't tell him what the person across from him was really thinking. He thought winning was the finish line, but later discovered that every victory came at a cost: his innocence, his shelter, and even the self who hid behind the debate podium, too afraid to speak.
"Mr. Gongsun, how do I solve this debate topic?"
"Xiao Yue, you'll have to figure that out yourself."
One hapless kid, one old ghost, and a team that can never get all its members together.
What they have to fight isn't a debate tournament. It's a battle to keep a nearly dead club alive for one more day.
