Xie Cun, an archival studies graduate, receives an unidentified corpse that no system can find in its records on his first day at Linjiang City’s old archives. The toe tag bears his own handwriting: Name, Xie Cun. Time of death, midnight tomorrow.
The security footage shows him delivering the corpse himself seven days from now. Paper and electronic records give him two conflicting birth certificates.
Xie Cun soon discovers that some files don’t record reality, they rewrite it. When enough records declare someone dead, access systems, photographs, friends, and even family gradually erase them.
To survive past midnight, he must find the file that was first recorded incorrectly before the whole world forgets him.
