Yin-Yang Candle Shop: Cultivating the Way on a Zombie Film Set

Lin Yan inherited the yin-yang and funeral-goods shop his grandfather left behind.

He was so broke he could barely scrape together a coin.

He was also three months behind on rent.

He thought he’d spend his life selling yellow joss paper and candles, scraping by until the end. Then the dusty Panda TV in the attic suddenly turned on by itself.

The screen wasn’t showing the news or a movie.

It was the Daoist temple from Mr. Vampire.

Uncle Jiu pointed his ruler at him. “You’re the new kid. Get into a horse stance.”

From then on, he ran the funeral-goods shop on the old street by day, taking jobs.

At night, he climbed into the TV and learned Daoist magic from Uncle Jiu.

His Purification Mantra sent little ghosts tumbling away.

His corpse-subduing talismans had gambling ghosts begging for mercy.

A line snapped from an ink marker could bind both corpses and human hearts.

Everyone said the old street had a young Master Lin with remarkable skills.

Only Lin Yan knew what Uncle Jiu had taught him wasn’t just Daoist magic.

There was also a lesson carved into his bones:

“If the line is crooked, you can draw it again.”

“But if your heart is crooked,”

“you can never set it straight again.”
