Journey to the West: From the Start, Tang Sanzang Is Bound to a Check-In System

On the 108th day of Tang Sanzang's journey to retrieve the scriptures, a "ding" rang in his head.

A thing calling itself the Journey to the West Check-In System showed up, saying it wanted to give him some perks.

He thought the journey would get a little easier from then on. Instead, the very first mission told him to perform rites for a lonely ghost. Then came surviving in the caves of Yellow Wind Ridge, the remnant soul of a green vine at Wuzhuang Temple, the Hundred-Bone Yin-Gathering Formation at White Bone Ridge...

How was this a perk? It was clearly trying to make sure he died sooner.

Even more ridiculous, none of the rewards from this System were any use in a fight: an automatically cleaned kasaya, compressed rations, and a portable meditation cushion. The only remotely useful one was an upgraded headband that could detect when Wukong was lying.

"System, can you give me something I can actually fight with?"

[Hello, Host. Your role is the team's core, spiritual leader, and top-tier support. Leave the fighting to your disciples.]

Tang Sanzang understood.

He really wasn't any good at fighting. But he did have one talent: getting the people who could fight to do it for him.
