Yun Xiao is a 17-year-old from a poor mountain village. At the end of his second year of high school, an elite school in Shencheng launches an educational assistance program in response to a call from the Ministry of Education. Staff from the school visit Yun Xiao's impoverished county to assess the situation, and thanks to his top grades, he becomes one of the lucky students admitted to the elite school. Little does he know that just when he thinks his life is about to begin anew, fate is about to deliver a crushing blow.
Yan Chi is a student at the elite school in Shencheng, a spoiled heir who is good for nothing but fighting and bullying. To those he's mistreated, he's no different from a venomous snake. His family has already arranged for him to study abroad, after which he'll return to inherit the family business. For people born into privilege, the idea that hard work can change your life is nothing but a comforting lie told to those beneath them.
On his first day at the school, Yun Xiao accidentally bumps into Yan Chi, drawing the attention of a group of rich kids who are good for nothing. They mock and torment him, and Yan Chi's hangers-on go so far as to egg him on to pursue the poor student and toy with him. They even bet on whether the poor student will wail and make a scene when Yan Chi breaks up with him.
When everything comes to light, the privileged lower their heads in remorse, while the less fortunate turn away coldly.
