In the Great Yin Dynasty, the dead do not always become ghosts.
What is truly dangerous is what people cannot let go of while they are alive.
Jealousy, greed, resentment, fear, vanity…
When an obsession grows strong enough, it breaks free of the human heart and becomes a monster.
Outside the imperial court, there once existed a secret organization absent from the history books: the Obsession Bureau.
They didn’t arrest people. They dealt with monsters born from the human heart.
Three years ago, the entire bureau was wiped out overnight.
The young Shen Ye was lucky enough to survive. He concealed his identity and made a living as a coroner.
The world knows only that he is skilled at examining corpses.
No one knows he can see the deepest obsessions in people’s hearts.
And no one knows that the Forbidden Object, the Mirror of All Living Beings, suppressed by the Obsession Bureau for hundreds of years, is now sealed inside him.
It begins with a strange river that devours beautiful women, and Shen Ye once again steps into a world where monsters and human hearts are intertwined.
He slays monsters and solves one deadly puzzle after another, drawing ever closer to the truth behind what happened three years ago.
