Doomsday Simulation: Variant Host

Do you think this is a simulator? Do you think a simulator is supposed to give you hope? The most hopeless thing is being given hope, only to be left to die slowly, like someone drowning. You want to grab onto everything, but you can't hold on to anything. Maybe that's just reality.

This isn't a traditional simulator story. The early chapters are a little slow, but the pace picks up after twenty thousand words. If you enjoy hooks, foreshadowing, and twists, give it a try. Everyone is welcome to discuss the plot in the comments.

After a catastrophe, cities were reduced to ruins. Shen Che awakened the ability to simulate possible outcomes, but using it cost him his own lifespan. He led a group of survivors through dangers lurking everywhere, searching for a way to survive in the depths of despair. Then, by accident, he came into contact with an unknown substance, and a hidden threat quietly took root inside him. Fighting mysterious dangers on the outside while enduring physical mutations within, he must find a way to stay alive before his life runs out.
