The Man I Flirted with That Night Asked Me to Call Him Uncle

On the eve of her eighteenth birthday, Ruan Jiaojiao put on smoky cat-eye makeup so heavy even her own mother wouldn't recognize her. Then, mustering her courage, she tried to flirt with a man at the most exclusive private club in Hong Kong City.

The man radiated a chill, rolling a strand of agarwood prayer beads between his fingers. Behind his gold-rimmed glasses, his eyes were as black as a frozen pool on a winter night.

He gripped her wrist and said, “Play with fire, and you'll get burned.”

Then he had his bodyguards throw her out the back door.

Two days later, she came down the spiral staircase in a white princess dress, holding her brother's arm.

Pointing to the familiar figure in the middle of the banquet hall, a sight that made her blood run cold, her brother said:

“Say hello. He's Uncle Fu, your father's friend.”

Ruan Jiaojiao nearly ripped her skirt on the spot.

Later, her brother went on a business trip and entrusted her to Uncle Fu, who was “a little cold, but very dependable.”

On her first day at his house, he laid down three rules.

Before he could finish the third, he tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear. His fingertip brushed her earlobe as he murmured:

“Be good.”

Ruan Jiaojiao knew she was done for.

Completely done for.
