Splendor at the Bottom of the Well

Well at the Bottom of the Well

After five years of stitching day and night, Lin Jin spent her youth embroidering a house full of splendid brocades to support Zhao Heng, a poor scholar studying for the civil service exams. Clinging to nothing but a verbal promise of marriage, she eagerly awaited the day he would pass the exams and make her his wife.

But as soon as Zhao Heng became the top-ranked graduate, he turned around and married into a wealthy family, publicly denying that he had ever cared for her. His vicious mother-in-law humiliated her at every turn, while malicious gossip crushed her until she could barely take a step.

With her heart broken and all hope gone, she clutched half of a bright red wedding gown and leaped into an ancient well. She thought she was bound for the underworld, but the bottom of the well held another world.

When she opened her eyes, she had fallen into the dazzling, strange modern world. To her utter surprise, old things that had been worthless in ancient times became wildly popular and highly sought after in the modern world, and her wedding gown was an priceless treasure. The scoundrel who had once exploited her labor followed her into the well and became trapped in another world.

Once-trampled, orphaned embroiderer that she was, she now held the secret of traveling between two worlds. She would reclaim every debt owed to her and build a splendid life of her own in both worlds.
