Fate does not emerge; karma reigns supreme. The protagonist, Ling Fan, is a squad leader in the City Guard Office of the Great Qian capital. While out on a mission beyond the city, he is ambushed by his own men and knocked off a cliff. By a stroke of luck, he receives the legacy of a revered eminent monk.
He not only gains the means to cultivate immortality, but also the power of the Law of Karma, which the monk had comprehended. This power of karma gives him abilities beyond those of ordinary cultivators.
