[Metaphysics master + ancient person in the modern world + marriage first, love later + supernatural mystery + fated romance + two equally strong leads]
Wen Hezhao has never been wrong when telling fortunes.
Until the day she publicly revealed that the landlord’s child wasn’t his. The landlord tried to kill the child out of spite, and as Wen Hezhao protected the six-year-old, someone smashed the back of her head with a stool.
When she opens her eyes again, it’s 2083. Here, not getting married is a sin. Anyone who turns twenty-two and is still single must pay two million yuan in single tax every year.
Standing outside the marriage registry, she sees a man surrounded by dark energy walk past. She reads his fortune and says, “Your step-grandmother wants you dead.”
He turns around and stares at her for three seconds, then says something she thinks she must have misheard:
“Marry me, and I’ll help you.”
Wen Hezhao thinks it’s a deal that benefits them both. But after moving into the Yin family home, she discovers a shadow she can’t see lurking in the Yin family’s high-rise, and the letter her master left behind is missing its three most important pages.
She opens a little metaphysics shop, and the neighbors call her Master Wen. More and more people come to see her: a little girl who calls out names to a wall in the middle of the night, a man haunted by old grudges from his ancestral home for four generations...
More and more people seek her out, and she reads every case correctly.
Except for Yin Siye. She can’t read him at all.
She notices that he always stands outside her bedroom late at night, neither coming in nor leaving.
When she asks what he’s doing, he says, “Listening to you breathe, to make sure you’re still alive.”
For the first time, Wen Hezhao thinks that this man, surrounded by dark energy, is harder to deal with than any ghost she has ever met.
The story has a female protagonist, metaphysics and suspense, and clear logic. It looks pretty good.
This is my favorite theme. I can listen to it and fall asleep at night. I hope the author will do more.
