Xie Yongqiang (He Shufeng), a young man from the countryside who graduated from a forestry university, returns to his hometown and is unemployed. While there, he falls in love with Wang Xiaomeng (Wang Yabin), a girl from his village. But his father, Xie Guangkun (Tang Jianjun), strongly opposes the relationship, hoping his son will make something of himself. When Wang Xiaomeng's father, Wang Laoqi (Cai Weili), hears about it, he feels deeply insulted and also forbids his daughter from marrying Xie Yongqiang. The two young lovers face opposition, while Xiangxiu (Wang Junping), the village chief's daughter, seizes the opportunity to declare her affection for Xie Yongqiang. Hoping to secure a job in the future, Xie Yongqiang is pressured by his family and, through a twist of fate, becomes engaged to Xiangxiu. Meanwhile, Wang Xiaomeng is pursued by Liu Yishui (Yan Guangming), head of the village livestock farm, and their neighbor Zhao Yutian (Wu Yunfei). Unexpectedly, when the job placements are announced, Xie Yongqiang is not assigned to the city after all. Xiangxiu, who had hoped to become a city resident through him, is deeply disappointed and grows distant. Wang Xiaomeng and Xie Yongqiang rekindle their relationship, and the two begin working hard to develop a mountain orchard. Then, out of nowhere, an admission notice from the county arrives...
