Jiang Zhan opened an unnamed teahouse on the old street. It was a haven for the socially anxious, and she didn't serve idle customers.

Then, on a stormy night, a man with dark circles under his eyes barged in. "I'll pay anything for the tea that helps you sleep best."

She slapped his change back into his hand. "This is a teahouse, not a club. I don't sleep with customers or sell myself."

But he said, "You drew the design for Jinchuang Tower three years ago, didn't you?"

She thought he'd come to repay a favor. He'd only come because he couldn't sleep.

She thought he was looking for a bit of fun, but he spent a month piecing together the design she'd torn up and thrown in the trash, one scrap at a time.

Later, a new sign went up outside the teahouse. It read "Tingbai."

At two in the morning, he sent her a message: "Are you asleep?"

She replied: "The socially anxious don't have the right to go to bed early."
