That was until his senior year of high school, when he stood up for someone and happened to rescue a top student being bullied by the school’s resident tough guy.

The whole world suddenly took on a different look.
More and more unusually enthusiastic citizens began appearing on the streets of New York.

The early story is based on the Marvel’s Spider-Man game universe, with some changes to the setting.
