The 1980s: The Lazy Housekeeper Gets Tangled Up with a Madman

[Eighties, nanny, obsessive possessiveness, sweet period romance, comeback, food, strong female lead]

Su Niannian’s greatest dream in life is to laze around and be a couch potato.

Unfortunately, her aunt won’t let her.

“The textile mill director’s family in the city needs a nanny. Room and board included, eight yuan a month!”

“Not going.”

“They provide three meals a day.”

“...I’m in.”

Eighteen-year-old Su Niannian enters the Lu family home, bringing with her the exceptional cooking skills passed down by her grandmother.

Her sister-in-law thinks she’s unsophisticated and makes things difficult for her at every turn.

Her younger sister-in-law thinks she’s poor and calls her a country bumpkin at every opportunity.

And the Lu family’s second son, a senior technician at the steel mill who walks with a swagger and speaks in an icy tone?

The first time he sees her, he drops his cup.

Su Niannian tries to keep her distance.

Yet there’s always an extra piece of meat in her bowl.

The quilt in the woodshed is replaced with a new one before she knows it.

She wants to learn how to read and study the newspapers, and the next day a dictionary is waiting on the table.

Su Niannian: This man... something’s not right.

She decides to take the opportunity to learn as much as she can, then leave as soon as her three months are up.

But as the day of her departure draws nearer, the man who has always been so aloof and self-possessed finally drops his act.

He corners her in the kitchen, eyes red, and says:

“Who said you could leave?”

Su Niannian: “...”

So much for the aloof senior technician. What kind of lunatic is this?
