In the winter of 1977, heavy snow closed the mountains in Zhaojiagou, northern Shaanxi.
Lin Wanqiu came from a modern laboratory and became the famous "squeamish" educated youth. The original owner couldn't endure the hardship, so she refused to accept her fate. Lack of food and clothing? She made briquettes and improved heating with her own methods, and asked the whole village to follow her example; was the clan ostracized? She used modern accounting methods and knowledge of agricultural technology to make people who laughed at her turn to her for advice.
Everyone was waiting for her to survive the winter. But she just spent winter as the starting point.
There is only one exception.
Lu Chen, the son of a "bad family" in the back mountain, is taciturn and a loner, and everyone in the team avoids him. But when she was reviewing late at night, she always put the hot paste on the window sill and stuffed the out-of-print exercises into the crack of her door.
He didn't ask and she didn't answer. But every book and piece of charcoal handed to me in the wind and snow is like the everlasting kerosene lamp on the cave wall - not bright, but warm.
Later, the college entrance examination resumed. Lin Wanqiu was admitted to Beijing, but Lu Chen was blocked due to political review. Everyone said "forget it", but she knocked on his door the night before leaving and only said:
"Lu Chen, the road in Beijing is difficult. But if you come with me, you can get through it."
