A Laid-Back Scholar Takes the Imperial Exams, and the Whole Court Chases After Me

Jiang Tang is a hopelessly lazy woman who transmigrates into the body of a fallen noblewoman about to be sent to a nunnery for the rest of her life. The System tells her, “According to Great Chu law, any woman who passes the provincial examinations as a recommended scholar or higher receives ten taels of silver in pension each month, plus lifetime housing!”

For the sake of this paid life of doing nothing on ten taels a month, Jiang Tang has no choice but to pick up the Four Books and Five Classics.

At first, she only wants to come in last and get a secure government job. But then...

A waterworks diagram she casually doodles on her exam paper solves a century-old flood problem in Jiangnan, and the Minister of Works weeps as he begs to become her student.

An agricultural policy she writes at random just to finish early doubles Great Chu's grain production, and the Minister of Revenue camps outside her home overnight, pleading for her to join his department.

Even the powerful, ruthless Eunuch of Nine Thousand Years, also known as the cold-faced Regent, personally brings her bird's nest soup and coaxes her: “Tangtang, write one more essay on governing the country, and I'll hand you the keys to my private treasury.”

Jiang Tang stares at the mountain of memorials and bursts into tears. “I really just wanted a cushy job with a base salary so I could laze around! Whoever wants to be Grand Secretary can do it!”

Everyone grabs her leg and cries, “No! Without you, Great Chu is doomed!”
