During the Shaoxing period of the Southern Song Dynasty, the 22-year-old Xin Qiji led 50 cavalry to break into the 50,000 gold camp at night and captured the traitor general Zhang Anguo alive. He became famous in Jiangbei from then on. He returned south to the Song Dynasty with Geng Jing's commander-in-chief and more than a thousand rebels, thinking that from then on he could make a northern expedition to the Central Plains and regain the lost territory.
However, from the moment he set foot in the Song Dynasty, his identity was nailed to the word "returned man" - the court accepted him but did not believe him. For more than forty years, Xin Qiji served as a local official in Chuzhou, Jiangxi, Fujian, Hunan and other places. He made achievements in each place (disaster relief, military training, bandit control, and building the Flying Tiger Army). However, every time he showed his prominence, he was impeached and dismissed from office, and he was idle between Daihu and Laoquan.
He was once the sharpest sword in the Southern Song Dynasty, but was regarded as the most annoying flag by the court.
