The siblings each play their own game: bound by the same road of vengeance, yet destined for different paths.
Once famed throughout the capital, Chu Liang, the legitimate son of the Chu family, poured the strength of his entire clan into helping Xiao Jingyuan claim the throne. In return, he secured the throne for the emperor.
But when the Chu uprising began, the Chu family was branded guilty of treason and utterly destroyed.
Though Chu Liang miraculously survived, the tendons in his hands were severed. Imprisoned in the North Courtyard, he took the name Chu Ci.
His former glory crumbled to dust. At last enlightened, he no longer cared for the imperial favor of the Xiao clan of Great Yong. Using princes as pieces and the realm as his board, he plotted his revenge step by step!
Chu Qiongying, the Chu family's legitimate daughter, had been frail since childhood and kept hidden in the inner quarters, allowing her to escape the massacre. Later, she took the name Fu Yueyao.
From a sheltered, frail girl whom no one had ever placed their hopes in, she became a revenger who entered the game and moved its pieces. She refused to believe women could only wait to be saved. Saving yourself was the only way out!
The siblings each took a perilous road of revenge. Misunderstandings and estrangement stood between them, but the bond of blood between them never faded.
Thorns lined their path, and schemes came one after another.
In this game of chess for the fate of an empire, could they kill their enemies with their own hands and redress the Chu family's terrible injustice?
It's a good-looking story about revenge and plotting, with tension between brothers and sisters, a group portrait, and the sadness of the times, the complexity of human nature, and the struggles of women. Everyone is alive and has their own personality and goals. Not a brainless article. This book is a two-perspective book, with brother Chu Ci having more of a perspective. I hope Yue Yao will stay sane. The content in the book is historical and not black and white. It has rich story lines and is worth reading.
