Hunter X Hunter: This Hunter Isn't Exactly Proper

This is a dark-leaning Hunter x Hunter fanfic that generally captures the atmosphere of the original. It is not a power-leveling story, and the protagonist starts out quite powerful.

The pacing is not especially fast at first, and battles are not just simple exchanges of moves. To keep the story coherent and make the fights exciting, some chapters may be longer, so give them a little patience.

The story takes place one year before the events of the original. At first, it does not follow the main cast, but it joins the original storyline midway through. Its focus is the underworld, Nen Ability mind games, and high-pressure battles. The protagonist is not a conventionally passionate, good-hearted hero: he is self-interested, scheming, and hates trouble.
