Chinese Expeditionary Force: Return

In the winter of 1941, Duan Qingshan, a young hunter from a mountain village in western Yunnan, was tracking prey in the mountains when he witnessed Japanese aircraft bombing villages and towns. The war broke his familiar life in the mountains and forests and pushed him into the ranks of the expeditionary force. With his eyesight, patience and judgment of wind direction and terrain developed over many years of hunting in the mountains, Duan Qingshan has gradually become a scout and sharpshooter in the army from a taciturn mountain man. He followed the Chinese Expeditionary Force into Myanmar and experienced fierce battles in Tonggu, Mandalay, Nyan'anqiang and other places. He also encountered a real opponent for the first time - Japanese sniper Naoki Matsumoto. Matsumoto is calm, precise, and cruel, and is good at hiding himself in rainforests, ruins, and darkness. He killed Luo Daguo, Duan Qingshan's most respected squad leader, and has since become a lingering shadow in Duan Qingshan's heart. As the war situation worsened, the Chinese Expeditionary Force was forced to retreat. Duan Qingshan and his comrades were separated from the main army and struggled to survive in the Burmese rainforest and savage mountains. They did not have enough food, medicine and maps. Not only did they have to avoid the Japanese pursuit, they also had to face swamps, poisonous insects, disease, hunger and despair. This is the first time Duan Qingshan truly understands war. The hunter only needs to kill one prey, but the soldier must move forward with the living among the dead. Duan Qingshan finally launched a life-and-death showdown with Matsumoto deep in the Savage Mountain, and led his remaining companions out of the jungle. But walking out of Savage Mountain does not mean the war is over. For Duan Qingshan, the truly long war has just begun after that green mountain forest that swallowed up countless people.
