When the heaven and earth first opened, nine "Heaven Pillars" were born from the chaos, supporting the nine heavens. But then one of the pillars broke and a corner of the sky collapsed. From then on, the heaven and earth became unstable and "turbid air" leaked out from time to time. Wherever the turbid air passes, flowers and plants grow wildly, animals turn into monsters, and people turn into monsters.
In order to combat turbid qi, ancient monks created the method of "qi refining". But refining Qi requires "spiritual veins", and spiritual veins are the fragments scattered on the ground when the Tianzhu breaks. Spiritual veins are limited, use less. Therefore, the current world of cultivation appears to be an immortal on the surface, but secretly it can kill people all over the world because of a spiritual vein as big as a fingernail.
The entire world is divided into nine "domains", and each domain corresponds to a sky pillar - the sky pillar corresponding to the eighth domain is broken, so the eighth domain has become a wasteland, full of deformed monsters, and no one dares to enter.
The story takes place in the fifth domain, called "Tunyuan Domain". This place is the poorest in the Nine Realms.
