Born a Refugee, I Somehow Became Emperor

After a failed uprising, I fled. In the end, I donned the imperial robes and brought the age of chaos to its knees!

In the third year of Jinghe under the Great Yong, local warlords joined forces with powerful local clans, and the rebellions of Huang Chao and Wang Xianzhi ushered in an age of chaos. The protagonist, Hu Jinglan, bears a grudge over his family's destruction when he was young, though he remembers little of it. He drifts to Lihuan County in Suzhou and becomes the leader of a gang of young ruffians. There, he meets Li Qingyi, a young lady from a scholarly family, and is hunted by Lin Wan, a top assassin from a martial-world organization. Unable to stomach the state of the world, he leads the displaced in revolt, but the uprising is suppressed. With no other choice, he leads his brothers to join Huang Chao's rebellion. Later, he is recruited by Yang Xingmi, the new military governor of Huainan. He grows through war into a cavalry commander and gradually uncovers the mystery of his origins. As a new dynasty is established, Hu Jinglan takes part in military reforms and the recovery of warlord territories, marries a princess, and wins the favor of a warlord's consort... Yet he also faces a shocking conspiracy. After Yang Xingmi's death, he purges the emperor's faction, dons the imperial robes, and founds a dynasty of his own.
