I'm Not the God of Theater: The Fate-Binder of Fog City

[The Ghost-Playhouse of the Fog City, a Forbidden Place That Exists Only Within Its Rules]

A gray fog blankets the city, where bizarre disappearances happen one after another. Whenever the playhouse gong rings, the living are forced to take the stage: a Republican-era theater, a village opera, a palace music hall... Every performance has deadly rules, and anyone who breaks them is erased.

Gu Xuange is a down-and-out detective, and one of the rare “fate actors.”

While others awaken a single role, he can switch masks and take on different roles: sheng, dan, jing, mo, and chou, five abilities he can use at will.

But every time he switches roles, he loses a memory or an emotion, until he can no longer tell who he is.

“The Marriage of Zhong Kui's Sister”: Seven people are trapped in the City God Temple. The rules say, “The living must keep their eyes closed when Zhong Kui makes his rounds at night,” but one of them has been dead for some time.

“The Injustice to Dou E,” “The Peony Pavilion”... Every play is a life-or-death deduction.

The more mysteries he solves, the closer he gets to the point of no return, where he has “become too immersed in the role.” Once he fully enters the play, he will remain onstage forever.

“The playhouse isn't hell. It's a place for obsessions that have been forgotten.”
