"Kowloon Spring" is a full-length novel set in Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong. It revolves around an old hotel called "Kowloon Spring" and tells the complex intertwining of the accounting system, debts in the world and the redemption of human nature.
The story begins when A Gan, a car mechanic, blocks someone's knife and is admitted to the hospital. He was rescued by Mr. Meng, the boss of Jiulongchun, and entered this three-story old shop - eating in the front hall, cooking in the back kitchen, and living upstairs. Here, A Gan started from keeping vigil and gradually took over the accounting room, and found an old account book that had been dusty for fifteen years. The account book records a number of past events: Fifteen years ago, someone was sent away due to debt, and their family members are still missing.
As the accounts were uncovered layer by layer, A Gan was involved in a liquidation that spanned fifteen years - Brother Kun of Heshun Hall wanted to write off the accounts, Wynn Finance wanted to close the store, retired police detective Guan Shouyi was tracking down the missing persons, and a girl named Yoona was waiting for the accounts to be cleared and returned home. A Gan went from settling accounts for others to repaying debts for others, and finally made his own choice between accounting books and human life.
The five volumes of the book correspond to the five time nodes of "spring - spring thunder - three volts - frost - the end of the year". The narrative spans from Aqian's admission to the settlement of the accounts, which is about one and a half years.
