Absurd! Who Taught Him to Be a Police Officer Like That?

Shen Tingsi, the top ace of Yanjing’s Special Investigations Bureau, has grown tired of a life filled with danger. He voluntarily requests a transfer to a neighborhood police station in the old quarter of coastal Egret Island City, hoping to coast along as a deputy station chief with regular nine-to-five hours.

He spends his workdays drinking tea and reading the paper, then strolls around listening to music after work. Shen Tingsi thinks he can enjoy a quiet life like this until the end.

That is, until the local criminal gang, powerful enough to rule the city, tries to force the old quarter’s residents out. Not only do they smash the wonton stall serving his favorite food, they brazenly come to collect protection money from him, too.

Looking at the arrogant young heir to the gang, Shen Tingsi helplessly sets down his thermos of goji berry tea. “I just want to live a peaceful life. Why do you have to make me work overtime?”

That night, the underground kingpin who has ruled Egret Island City for ten years kneels in neat rows outside the police station, weeping and begging to be sent inside to work a sewing machine.

The news sends every faction into an uproar.

The aloof female forensic doctor who used to think he lacked ambition is dumbstruck. The upright head of the city bureau’s criminal investigation team is stunned. Even the elite foreign intelligence network lurking in the shadows is so terrified that its agents flee overnight, buying standing-room train tickets!

“Wasn’t the old quarter supposed to have only one useless deputy station chief who does nothing but drink tea? Then who’s that monster who slapped an international mercenary flying?!”
