Lin Chen brings his four- or five-year-old daughter back to his family home in the mountain village, supporting their family of three with the streams and forests nearby. He catches fish and gathers mushrooms to feed his little girl, while their loyal dog, Big Yellow, guards the house. As dark clouds gather and rain threatens, he tells his mother to look after Duoduo, then heads into the woods. Their life may be poor, but he has a bamboo pole in his hand and a path beneath his feet. His family won't go hungry.
