Umbrella Corporation, which conducts bioweapons research for the military, has a massive underground research center beneath Raccoon City called the Hive. An accident causes an airborne bioweapon to leak. The Hive's security computer system, the Red Queen, initiates emergency measures, but hundreds of staff members die as a result... Four hours later, Alice, a Hive security officer, wakes up at the Hive's exit with amnesia caused by the hypnotic gas. A special forces team ordered to shut down the Red Queen arrives, along with Alice and Anderson, who claims to be a police officer.
