Zhou Sheng, a martial arts instructor, drowns while saving a mother and child who fell into the water. The King of Hell sends him to another world in ghost form to earn merit points in exchange for a chance to return to the living.
There, he meets Xiao Jinan, an illegitimate son of the Xiao family who is being bullied by others. With his ability to make his words come true, Zhou Sheng helps him deal with his tormentors and supports him as he grows into the man who can carry on the Xiao family name.
Once he has earned enough merit, Zhou Sheng returns to the modern world.
The King of Hell picks out a new body for him: Lu Mingzhao, the only son of Huaguo's richest man, who has only one soul and one spirit left after a car accident.
Zhou Sheng returns to life in Lu Mingzhao's body and is reunited with his wife and daughter.
