Village boy Lu Yuanshan gets into a university in the provincial capital, and his mother asks her old classmate Lin Shuya to look after him. Over four years, he uses a camera to document the divide between city and countryside, finds his voice through literature, and goes from clashing with his roommates to becoming close friends with them. He experiences first love and parting, and gradually uncovers the hidden emotional history between his parents and Lin Shuya. From timid to resolute, he finally understands: leaving is how you learn to return better, and distant mountains have never really been far away.
