The story follows Hong Sanyuan as he takes his mother and close friend Qi Lin to Shanghai to seek refuge with Yan Hua. He gets caught up in a power struggle between two major companies. Using his quick wits, Hong Sanyuan repeatedly escapes danger in the treacherous world of Shanghai, and swears brotherhood with the loyal and righteous Shen Da. In the end, he realizes the true meaning of a bright future and sets out on the path of revolution.
