[Sci-Fi Apocalypse] [Ensemble Cast] [Wasteland] [Natural Disasters] [Evolution] [Two Male Leads]
On April 17, the day golden spores fell, everyone around the world was smiling.
Some thought it was romantic.
Some were busy taking photos to post on social media.
Some called it the best gift of spring.
Seven days later...
Some people were dead. Some had become another kind of creature. They looked like humans, but they ate people.
Some achieved symbiosis, gaining heightened senses and immense strength.
And some remained unchanged, with no abilities and no mutations, left to count the days as they survived in the cracks.
Chen Yexing belonged to the third group.
His ability was one of the most useless.
He couldn't fight or take a hit, and he was even half a step slower than everyone else when he ran.
All he could do was vaguely sense the spores' "emotions."
He knew which roads were safe, which corners had something lying in wait, and which patches of trees were "feeding."
The only thing he could do for everyone was write down everything he saw.
So he wrote.
He wrote about plants swallowing entire streets overnight, about plant-humans using their backs to lure survivors closer, and about how humanity rebuilt civilization inch by inch from the ruins.
Seventy years of notes piled up higher than a person.
In Year 80 of the New Era, a young historian named Lin Wei sat across from him and asked the question everyone was waiting to hear answered:
"Do you think we've passed the test?"
The 107-year-old Chen Yexing didn't answer. He opened his notebook to the first page, where a line had been crossed out.
[On the night of April 17, golden particles drifted over Shencheng.]
He closed the notebook and smiled.
"The answer lies in every day that comes after this."
