I'm Already the Son-in-Law, So Why Bother Taking the Imperial Exam?

Xu Xian wakes up one day to find himself in an unfamiliar dynasty.

No System, no money, no status. All he has is half of a battered bronze token and a marriage contract from who knows where.

He follows the marriage contract to its address, intending to ask, “Do you provide meals?” But the moment he walks in, the beautiful young lady of the Jiang family grabs him in front of everyone.

“Everyone, this is my husband.”

And just like that, Xu Xian inexplicably becomes the Jiang family’s son-in-law.

He thinks he can spend the rest of his life living off his wife, sleeping in, and occasionally teasing her.

But after he offers a suggestion to help a paper mill, his father-in-law says he has a talent for business. He casually settles a dispute over water, and the county magistrate says he has a gift for governing. Then he’s forced to sit an exam for an official title, and somehow becomes the top scholar at both the prefectural and palace examinations...

Later, the emperor looks over his court officials and points at Xu Xian.

“This man is fit for great responsibility!”

Xu Xian panics on the spot.

“Your Majesty, wait!”

“I’m already somebody’s son-in-law. Why would I need to become the top scholar?”
