A Song of Two Lives

At midnight at Zhegu Ferry, he saved a girl who was about to jump by playing a bamboo flute. But the strand of "musical marrow" that kept her alive had been borrowed from another age. The one who lent him her life lived three hundred years ago in the Xian Dynasty: Wen Chi, a musician forced to serve as a "living instrument." Each time she gives him another breath of life, another strand of white appears at his temples; each time he lights up a page of the incomplete score, she grows a year older. Two lives share one melody, two souls with different fates, each owing the other a debt. Following the music to its source, he learns that the incomplete score was left behind by his own past life, and that Wen Chi was trapped in the deepest intrigues of the Xian Dynasty for his sake. For eight years, she could not return home, and her temples had already turned gray. From the start, he had only a flute; in his past life, she kept me alive.
