A thousand years ago, the war between immortals and demons ended when Ming Yao, the Immortal Realm’s God of War, drove her sword into the Demon Lord Ling Yuan’s heart. The Demon Realm was defeated, and the Immortal Realm claimed a great victory. The Heavenly Dao sentenced the Demon Lord to a thousand years of reincarnation, then shattered the Demon Realm’s greatest treasure, the Immortal-Slaying Mirror. Its fragments scattered to every corner of the Three Realms, greatly weakening the Demon Realm.
To keep the demons from nursing their rebellious ambitions and stirring up trouble across the Three Realms again, Ming Yao found and killed Ling Yuan in every one of his reincarnations over those thousand years.
Then, as the thousandth year drew to a close and Ling Yuan’s punishment neared its end, the Heavenly Dao regretted its decision. With no other way to stop him, it resorted to a beauty trap.
“A Yao, over these past thousand years, you’ve killed me more than ten times. Now, in my final reincarnation, the Heavenly Dao is out of options and resorts to such a despicable trick. What a clever scheme: making the one who’s killed fall in love with the one who wields the sword.” Ling Yuan spoke bitterly. His beautiful peach-blossom eyes now held a sinister glint, no longer clear and bright as they once were.
“If that’s the case, then kill me. That way, there will be no more risk.” Ming Yao’s expression was cool and detached.
“How could I kill you? A Yao, didn’t we agree? You’ll stay by my side forever and never leave me. I’ll keep you locked up, right here with me. All right?”
He looked at Ming Yao with stubborn, feverish eyes and spoke as if no refusal would be tolerated.
In a love-hate affair like this, is there more hatred, or more love?
At first: The cool, gentle, impartial Goddess of War, who treats all beings equally, versus the innocent, pure-hearted girl next door.
Later: The aloof goddess, high above the world, versus the bewitching, untamed, obsessive and unhinged Demon Lord.
