Are You Kidding Me? You Call This a Resident Doctor?

Lin Yi was the most miserable resident at City No. 1 Hospital. After he pointed out a surgical mistake made by department chief Zhao Decai, he was assigned to haul medical waste and carry buckets of used fluids. His residency logbook stayed blank for three months. A pileup on the North City expressway sent dozens of injured people flooding into the emergency department. The chief had fled, the residents were afraid to step in, and no one could reach the doctor on second call. A patient with an aortic dissection and blood pressure of 58/35 lay on a gurney, waiting to die. [Ding! Divine Doctor Discount Selection System successfully bound. Current balance: 10 yuan.] Blind vascular stent placement, 6 yuan. Top-tier fingertip sensitivity, 3 yuan. Suture-free gel, 1 yuan. Ten yuan. Not a cent left. Twelve minutes. No C-arm, no DSA, no vascular surgery team. With his eyes closed, he used touch alone to position the stent precisely over the tear in the aorta. The blood in the drainage tube stopped. "Rewind it! Start from the incision!" Wang Xuecheng, an associate chief physician with thirty years of experience, stared at the monitor, his hands trembling uncontrollably. Zhao Decai stood there holding his coffee, frozen. He had meant to record evidence of the resident making a fool of himself. Instead, he captured a textbook-perfect operation. While carrying an oxygen tank past the waiting area, Lin Yi spotted an acute heart attack that everyone else had mistaken for a stomachache. During a teaching operation, someone deliberately turned the camera away. Lin Yi closed his eyes and separated the gallbladder triangle by touch in thirty-eight seconds. At a marathon, he saved a runner in cardiac arrest with a bare-handed pericardiocentesis. And that was far from all he uncovered... A broken needle that had been inside a patient for thirty-seven days, falsified surgical records, and overpriced supplies falsely billed for ninety-seven operations. Zhao Decai dumped him in the medical records room, hoping to ruin him for good. He had no idea that the file cabinets there held evidence of every one of his crimes.
