Synopsis

After the Tang dynasty was founded, the northern tribes raised an army and invaded. The Tang emperor appointed Qin Qiong commander-in-chief and sent him on an expedition. Qin Qiong's northern campaign got off to a disastrous start, and the Emperor of Zhenguan was trapped in Muyang City. Cheng Yaojin fought his way back to Chang'an to seek reinforcements. The court held a grand martial arts contest to choose a second commander-in-chief. Luo Tong outshone all his rivals, took up the commander's seal, and led the army north to drive back the invaders.
