Jiang Chen, an ordinary middle school Chinese teacher in his third year on the job, had hoped to lie flat and enjoy a stable life in the public school system. But his superiors sweet-talked and tricked him into becoming homeroom teacher of Class 8, Grade 9, the school’s worst-behaved and lowest-scoring class.
Faced with a bunch of troublemakers who sleep in class, fight after school, and make every teacher shake their head, Jiang Chen decides to throw the rulebook out the window.
The students find classical poetry boring? He rewrites a hit pop song on the spot as their class anthem, and soon the whole class is singing with fiery enthusiasm!
The students think historical figures are dull and one-dimensional? He gives a no-holds-barred explanation of Confucius’s appearance using “hyaluronic acid,” and sets the record straight on the story of Gouyao and the dog that bit Lu Dongbin. The whole class can’t stop calling his Chinese lessons top-notch!
He doesn’t focus on discipline or talk about lofty ambitions. His approach is simple: “Sincerity for sincerity, and fight magic with magic.”
A year later, the high school entrance exam results are announced.
The class that once ranked dead last has an average score that beats every top class in the school!
The grade director stares at the score sheet, lost in thought. “I only asked you to look after the worst class. How did you turn them all into the city’s top scorers?!”
Simple words are more true. The language is delicate, and although there are no gorgeous words, you can still be fascinated by it! Closer to life
