Synopsis

He transmigrates to the Tang Dynasty and becomes Li Chengqian, the Crown Prince during the Zhenguan era.

Well versed in history, he knows all too well that, despite the prestige of his position, his leg ailment, his father's loss of favor, and the succession struggle will eventually drive him to rebellion. He will be deposed as a commoner and die in Qianzhou. So Li Chengqian sets three rules for himself:

Don't seek favor. Don't fight for power. Don't rebel.

Li Tai is favored? Let him be.

Father's tests? Avoid them if he can.

As for the throne, whoever wants it can have it!

All he wants is to stay in the Eastern Palace, eat well, make a little money, and live comfortably as a wealthy crown prince.

But things gradually start to go awry.

He casually reorganizes an estate, and grain yields rise. He improves the trade routes, and Tang's commercial tax revenue soars. He only wanted to make life more comfortable for himself, yet he keeps solving the court's problems one after another.

The more Changsun Wuji watches him, the more satisfied he becomes. Fang Xuanling is convinced he has the talent to govern the realm. Cheng Yaojin visits the Eastern Palace every day. Even Wei Zheng starts speaking up for him.

Watching the Crown Prince's position grow ever more secure, Li Tai is completely dumbfounded.

“Elder Brother, didn't you say you weren't competing?”

Facing the court full of civil and military officials, Li Chengqian looks utterly innocent:

“I really wasn't competing!”

Only many years later does Li Shimin realize the truth:

This Crown Prince, who thinks about doing nothing but lying flat, has become so firmly entrenched that there's no replacing him.

I Want a Feel-good Power Fantasy. Nothing That Makes You Think, No Dragging Plot, Just Pure Fun

Looking for stories like Why Do You Have a Friend in Every Instance? Ideally, something with eerie instances. I feel like the mind games drag on too much in the later part of this one. I want the kind where the protagonist acts cool and has no weaknesses. Ahhh, I really want to read something like that!
