The Third Mental Hospital of Shangjing City doesn't admit patients. It takes in people who have been "forgotten" by reality.
On his first day at work, Lu Chuan notices something is wrong. In the mirror in Room Three, Teacher Zhao's hand is drawing a triangle, while Teacher Zhao himself is drawing a circle. Teacher Zhao says, "You're the second person to see it. I was the first. I went mad, but you haven't yet."
Late that night, time slips out of place. The clock strikes twelve, but it's only 11:42. A golden-eyed girl slips out of the critical care ward and stands barefoot in the corridor. She tells him, "You're finally here. We've been waiting for you for a long time."
Lu Chuan is a "conceptual entity" formed from a crack in the rules. He is a person who came into being after a rule was shattered and completely forgotten by humanity. Seven hospitals around the world hold the cracks of seven core rules, and no one remembers the name of the rule inside him.
He has about two years to figure out who he is. If he can't, he will disappear, then be reborn in someone else.
The director of the central hospital wants to destroy him before he awakens. The director of Shangjing Hospital wants to lock him up and study him. Su Wan, the golden-eyed girl, says, "Wherever you go, I'll go too. It's not like I have anywhere else to go." Teacher Zhao in Room Three says, "I spent my whole life teaching, and in the end, I sat in this room teaching students no one could see. But you listened to my lessons."
Rules are created by what people "believe" in. Gravity, time, memory. When no one believes in something anymore, the corresponding rule shatters, and the shattered rule can coalesce into a person.
Lu Chuan is that person. He is something this world is in the process of forgetting.
He hasn't found the answer yet. But he's looking.
