Adapted from Shi Jing's novel of the same name, the drama follows Jiang Xuening, who once had no one to rely on. To protect herself, and driven by greed, she stopped at nothing to gain power. She schemed her way to becoming empress, trampling countless sincere hearts along the way and turning against the young marquis who had been her childhood sweetheart. Later, Xie Wei, the imperial tutor she had once saved, unexpectedly forced his way into the palace and launched a rebellion. The dynasty fell in an instant, the emperor died, and Zhang Zhe, the upright official she truly cared about and owed so much, was imprisoned because of her... Fortunately, she got a chance to be reborn. This time, she would live freely and openly, owing nothing to anyone.
