Synopsis of the story of "Datang: From Farming in the Late Sui Dynasty to the Golden Age"
Modern youth Shen Chuan travels through Shenjiagou in Yuci in the late Sui Dynasty. His parents died early, leaving only his younger siblings and a dilapidated earthen house. He activated the people's livelihood and arts system just when he was on the verge of starving to death. The system relies on reputation points to unlock survival skills such as wild vegetable identification, herbal medicine, and farm tool drawings. Participating in major historical events can obtain system values to unlock high-level technologies.
There were only seven days left before the village was wiped out. Shen Chuan relied on his grain identification skills to teach the villagers to identify poisonous wild vegetables, and built a simple water purification tank and boiled coarse salt with plant ashes to solve the village's dilemma of lack of food, salt and dirty drinking water. He drew the blueprint of the Quyuan plow to improve farming, and built village defenses in advance. He exposed the local evil gentry Wang Renze's conspiracy to collude with the bandits in Heifengzhai to massacre the village. He captured the bandit leader alive and sent it to the official, and received the public land and cattle rewarded by the government. Shen Chuan established a free warehouse and a work-point system to properly accommodate a large number of refugees and allow the dilapidated villages to gain a stable foothold.
As the turmoil of the troubled times intensified, Shen Chuan built a fortress and opened sugar, soap, and medical workshops. The reputation of stabilizing people's livelihood spread to Taiyuan. Li Shimin recruited him admiringly, and he joined the Li Yuan Rebel Army, specializing in farming grain and grass, accompanying the army on epidemic prevention, and logistics infrastructure. When Jinyang raised troops to capture Chang'an, he gathered the refugees, stopped the army from looting, and stabilized the hearts of the people in Guanzhong.
After the founding of the Tang Dynasty, Shen Chuan devoted himself to agricultural work, promoted curved shaft plows, barrel carts and high-yielding grain varieties, built water conservancy and opened a school for various industries. During the Xuanwumen Incident, he avoided party disputes and made arrangements in advance to protect the people's livelihood in the capital; during the Zhenguan period, he led the New Deal, sent envoys to the Western Regions to use agricultural technology and medicine to trade with neighbors, and improved sea vessels to develop maritime trade.
In his later years, Shen Chuan resigned from office and went into seclusion.
