Reunion after a long separation + love grows over time + one-on-one + both virgins + happy ending
Tao Jinchu has loved her senior for years, but with her feelings unrequited, all she can do is watch him marry someone else.
Overcome with heartbreak and grief, she drinks too much and ends up sleeping with Pei Xu, her older brother’s good friend!
One of them loves the groom, the other loves the bride, and all four are supposedly good friends. It doesn’t get more dramatic than this…
Tao Jinchu plans to pretend nothing happened, but the next day her family tells her that she and Pei Xu were betrothed as children and must live together for a year before they can call off the engagement.
Pei Xu takes responsibility seriously, so even this absurd arrangement is set in stone.
After they run into that newlywed couple who were once each other’s unrequited loves, they get carried away by the alcohol. Tao Jinchu pins Pei Xu to the sofa, grips his chin, and looks down at him as she asks:
“Do you want to forget her? Why not find someone else to love…”
Pei Xu has been secretly in love with someone for years, right up until he sees her marry someone else with his own eyes.
At the wedding, he drinks heavily, and through a twist of fate, ends up sleeping with his friend’s younger sister.
He agrees to the childhood engagement out of a sense of responsibility.
But how did things end up with them using each other as stand-ins?
And how did he come to want more than this relationship?
A little scene:
Much later, Pei Xu asks Tao Jinchu, “That childhood engagement back then, was it you who…”
Sitting on his lap with her arms around his neck, Tao Jinchu kisses him and gives him a sly smile. “If you know, don’t say it.”
