God has been silent for thirty-seven years. The gods in the sky no longer answer any prayers, but the authority of God has not disappeared—they have become ownerless things, leaking into the world, giving birth to a whole set of absurd faith businesses.
God maintains the world with "voice": every time he answers a prayer or sends an oracle, it is a settlement of divine power. After the silence of God, the divine voice lost its owner and became a signature that could be "impersonated". Whoever can accurately reproduce the answering voice of a certain god can temporarily borrow his authority - this craft is called a voice, and the person who does this is called a voice.
