Oil painting restorer Shen Zhiyi is used as a bargaining chip by the Shen family and married off to Lu Yanshen, the head of the Lu family. Their contract lasts one year and has three rules: no interference, no public appearances together, and no entanglements.
Lu Yanshen is known in business circles as the cold-faced King of Hell. The entire upper crust wonders what he wants with a marriage to an illegitimate daughter. No one knows that before the wedding, he'd already read all her papers, memorized every one of her allergies, and set a photo of an art exhibition she'd casually shared as his phone wallpaper.
After the wedding, he says they each get what they want, but his actions cross every line. When the zipper on her dress gets stuck, he fixes it himself. When she works late into the night, he happens to be passing by and gives her a ride. When people mock her for being an illegitimate daughter, he places the Lu family's art foundation in her hands in front of the city's elite.
Shen Zhiyi has a pair of eyes that can "read paintings," sensing the painter's emotions through color. She thought it was simply a restoration skill, until she read the true cause of Lu Yanshen's mother's death in an ancient painting at the Lu family's old residence. Hidden in the painting was a story from the past involving Grandpa Shen, Lu Yanshen's father, and her own late mother.
When the contract expires, she signs the divorce papers and leaves of her own accord, thinking that this is the most "dignified" ending.
Lu Yanshen searches the whole city for her. Gripping the divorce papers, he loses control in front of everyone for the first time. "Shen Zhiyi, when did I ever say I was letting you go?"
He's not making a deal. He's put his heart on the line, and from the very beginning, he never intended to take it back.
